I enjoy asymmetrical balance since it is performed with the attention hence also being known as optical balance. Unlike the previous however this room arranges the furniture on the grid. Every item you put in a room whether its a piece of furniture or a decorative accent has visual weight. Asymmetrical balance is also called informal balance.

Balance is a key element of good interior design. This room like the last uses a central point from which to balance the asymmetrical design. Balancing the strong linear lines of the tv cabinet is the long sofa opposite while the two light grey chairs are balancing the window opposite. Radial balance this is the least used type of balancing a look and design of a room.

It involves setting similar items in an area such as you would find on a dining room table. Asymmetrical is a more relaxed less formal approach to balance in a room. This asymmetrical fireplace above uses balance by the use of decorative objects either side of it to create harmony and stability in this living space. Symmetrical design themes make it easy for the brain to process the décor idea when someone walks into a room.

With asymmetrical balance a middle point or range continues to be found but differing home furniture are being used to set up balance. As i ve been putting together the living room the design principle of balance has come forefront in my mind. It is pleasing to the eye because it makes sense.
